Folk Workshops



Bath Folk Festival plays host to the widest range of folk workshops in Bath, including music and dance workshops featuring many different traditions.

Note: All workshops are free of charge for Traditional Music School students


Monday 11th August

Songs from County Down with David Lennon

at the University of Bath, 3E 2.4

£20 per person

Ards CCE member and fastidious researcher and collector of songs will be teaching songs from his native County Down in Northern Ireland


Tuesday 12th August

Welsh Music with Deuair

at the University of Bath, 3E 2.4

£20 per person

The Welsh tradition of music is very much alive. In this workshop, Deuair’s Ceri Owen Jones and Elsa Davies will be teaching Welsh dance music.


Wednesday 13th August

Balkan Music with Marick Baxter

at the University of Bath, 3E 2.4

£20 per person

Eastern European music has rich ryhthmic and harmonic textures. This work shop will explore some of those used in Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Macedonia.


Thursday 14th August

Swedish and Finnish Music with Gabi Maas

at the University of Bath, 3E 2.4h

£20 per person

Gabi has travelled and collected these emotive tunes first hand. The fiddle traditions of Eastern Scandinavia are deep and exciting.

Belly Dancing with Carmen Jones

Raqs Sharqi is the phrase translated from Arabic, which literally means “Dance of the Orient”. It is this that middle Eastern people use to name their dance form. Raqs Sharqi is an art form enjoyed by both sexes and young and old alike. It is an integral part of the Middle Eastern culture. In Egypt, no marriage or celebration would be complete without a Raqs Sharqi performance.
