Irish Set Dance Workshop

with Val and Maddy Knight

Come and enjoy the craic with us!

Val and Maddy offer you a chance to learn Irish set dancing based on their expertise gathered on their travels around Ireland, where they learned the sets from the local people and teachers.

The sets are danced in squares of four couples, with sets comprising of three or more figures (or parts). Each set has many different moves and steps depending on where the set is from. The steps vary from an easy basic step to “battering” steps.

All dancing is to traditional Irish music, including reels, jigs, polkas, slides and hornpipes.

The dances taught will be danced in the Ceili later that same afternoon.

Irish set is social dancing not River Dance, so it is a great way to meet people. No partner is required – just bring your smile!

Please wear comfy layers of clothing for dress and non-grip soles on your shoes.
